Our story
Hindsight Legal Advisers is a leading independent law firm in Sydney, established in 2024 by its co-founders, Michael Lazar and AJ Sridaran.
Michael and AJ collectively have over 20 years of legal experience, having worked at major Australian banks – NAB and Macquarie Bank respectively – and at global law firm, Dentons.
They established Hindsight Legal Advisers with the aim of providing customers with high quality, commercial and practical legal advice – leveraging their collective knowledge, experience and contacts to provide an industry leading legal service.
With their deep expertise in banking and property law matters, Michael and AJ aim to assist both:
- financial institutions and credit providers as they navigate Australia’s complex regulatory environment, and
- retail customers navigating both simple and complex personal law matters, including acting for and advising customers on the purchase or sale of property throughout Australia

AJ Sridaran, Co-Founder and Principal Lawyer
Prior to founding Hindsight Legal Advisers, AJ was a senior lawyer at Macquarie Bank and before that worked as a senior associate in the financial services regulation team at prominent global law firm, Dentons.
His areas of expertise include advising on complex anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing (AML/CTF) regulatory issues, privacy and data regulation, credit and financial services laws. In his career to date, he has advised some of the largest global financial institutions on a range of complex regulatory issues, which has led to AJ being recognised in 2022 by the Legal 500 as a ‘lawyer to note’ in the fintech and financial services regulatory space, and has also seen him recognised as a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards in both the financial services and banking categories in 2021 and 2022.
With nearly 10 years of legal experience, both as a senior lawyer at one of Australia’s leading in-house legal teams and as a senior associate at a global banking and property law firm, AJ is well-placed to advise clients of all sizes as they navigate Australia’s banking and property laws.
Michael Lazar, Co-Founder and Principal Lawyer
Michael Lazar is a co-founder of Hindsight Legal Advisers alongside AJ Sridaran.
Before this venture, Michael worked as a senior associate at Dentons for approximately nine years, during which he advised major Australian banks, financial institutions, and credit providers on a range of regulatory matters including the application of Australian advertising laws for regulated businesses, AML/CTF laws and design and distribution obligations. He is particularly well-known in the legal industry for his expertise advising and setting up many of Australia’s largest SMSF lenders – often advising on complex structuring questions and the application of the SIS Act to particular arrangements.
Michael’s expertise is further enhanced by his prior experience working at one of Australia’s Big 4 banks – NAB – as well as his extensive list of contacts throughout the financial services industry. This experience has proved incredibly useful for all of Michael’s clients over the years, both in the banking and property industries.
